Sirocco Research Labs announces The Great American Plains

A new feature film set to include daring escapes and forbidden love, performances by Ben Sellon, Diva Dompe, and Lola Dompe, as well as hunting tigers, bright costumes, casual nudity, the American Civil War, teepees and wild flowers, underwater photography, the color blue, ghosts, and the dreamy American wilderness.

Now in pre-production.

Everything will be dreamy and wild.

This weekend has been a blur of surreal links and numbers. The success of our online release of the full Red Moon film has left us all giddy and surprised and motivated.

We received press from three large and loud publications — BoingBoing, io9 and The Huffington Post — all amounting to over 18,500 views and counting in one little weekend. Pure magic, that internet is.

This is just the beginning.

After a beautiful year of showing Red Moon at film festivals, we’re very pleased to share our movie with all of our friends on the internet. Red Moon was Sirocco’s first baby. We’re very proud of it, and we’re happy you’re alive to watch it with us. Thank you!

Sirocco spent the weekend working on a music video for the Oakland-based band Birds and Batteries. The treatment’s about friendship, courage, the supernatural, and universal oneness. It was also Sirocco’s first time utilizing green screen technology. It might get get crazy. Careful!

The video will probably be released in March, but expect some rad behind the scenes photos well before then.

Red Moon Official Selection at the Oxford Film Festival

Hey! Sirocco’s taking another trip to the South! This time we’re heading to the Oxford Film Festival in Oxford, Mississippi to screen our short film Red Moon! I’ve never been to Mississippi despite knowing how it’s spelled for almost all of my conscious life. I couldn’t be more excited over just about everything.

The festival runs February 9–12, 2012, so if you’re in the region, come enjoy Oxford with us! You can rest assured I’m definitely already planning a Barry Hannah seance.

Red Moon at the 20th St Louis International Film Festival

Great news! Red Moon’ll be screening at this year’s 20th Annual St Louis International Film Festival! The dates are November 10-20th! If you’re from the area, come join us for what will hopefully be a wild week of being on the Mississippi River out on the Plains.

St Louis is the gateway to the frontier!

Print and Present for a Free Friendship Bracelet

We’re excited to announce that between August 5–31, Sirocco Research Labs will be operating our own Pop Up Shop inside of ReForm School on Sunset in Silver Lake. It’s for sure not to be missed. We’ve been posting some merchandise highlights over at our facebook page! It’s been so fantastic preparing for this shop, and to watch everyone else get ready, too. We’re really going for it. Everyone’s making the coolest stuff I’ve ever seen them make. For example, here’s what the Sirocco compilation DVD looks like:

You can buy that thing at the store! And other things, too! Other things include, but are definitely not limited to: Gym Bags, Muppet-style puppets, 12″ LP reissues, Audio Cassettes, Men and Women’s Apparel, Magic Powders, Holi Powders, Fake Groceries, prints, drawings, paintings, and so on. You *might* even be able to pick up a purity ring or two. But, we’ll see.

The opening reception is going to be held at ReForm School on Friday, August 5th. 7–10 PM. 3902 Sunset Blvd.
